As I'm about to head back to work after a month's holiday, its a good time to clean the bench, and look back at 2017.
Highlight of the year was heading across to the U.S with a friend to visit some of the museums and attend the Airventure Oshkosh Airshow. Calum and I did March AFB, Pima Air & Space Museum including The Boneyard, Titan Missile Museum and The USAF Museum at Dayton Ohio.
I still have not sorted through all the photos I took.
Modelling wise, I completed six builds, which considering I went swanning around overseas was not too bad.
Three of the six were reviews for The Modelling News, which limited me building kits from my own stash.
A few kits were sold this year, but that did not make up for the thirty I bought!
Anyway, in order of build, here they are
First up was the
Kittyhawk 1/48 Super Etendard
'Like all kittyhawk kits, it was subject to often ill informed opinion on the 'net, but wasn't a bad build, although certainly no shake and bake model. It required a lot of test fitting and parts preparation before committing to glue. Lucky I like the construction phase of the hobby as well as the painting part. From reviews I have read of the Kinetic kit of the Etendard, I think the KH kit comes out ahead, although one can really only make a late model SUE Modernise from the box.
Next up, and again for The Modelling News (TMN) was a 72 scale
Bronco DFS230 German Assault Glider
Im not going to say I had a blast with this. Its not my scale, and I just did not enjoy the build, which is no fault of the kit.
Finally I got to build something from MY stash, probably my favourite build of the year.
The Kittyhawk 1/32 P-39N/Q
I backdated it to a RAF Airacobra Mk1
Continuing on with models from my stash I completed two mirages as part of a challenge build between two friends and myself
Kinetic 1/48 Mirage IIIOs
The last kit to come off the bench completed, again for TMN was the
Kittyhawk 1/48 Su-35 Flanker E
Not quite making it was the
Dragon 1/32 Bf109E3
All these builds are more fully detailed in the "Completed Builds" page
I hope you all had a productive and fun 2017. See you in 2018.
A Happy and Safe Holiday period to all
I'm in my fifties and live in Regional Victoria, Australia.
